Short breaks for parents and carers of disabled children

short breaks for children with a disability/sen

Sandwell Short Breaks Offer is a list of specially commissioned short breaks for children and young people with a disability or SEN. If you have a social worker from the Children with Disabilities team, talk to them about short breaks.

Read our Short Breaks eligibility statement for more information on using short breaks.

Short breaks are important for the health and well-being of parents and carers. Breaks give disabled children the chance to make new friends, take part in activities and have fun in a different environment. Parents get a chance to unwind, pursue leisure activities and spend time with other children and family members. Kids have fun and parents can relax. Short breaks are a safe space for disabled children with activities and fully trained staff to meet children's needs.

Sandwell MBC has a duty to provide a range of short breaks. (1989 Children Act and 2011 Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations). These breaks must meet the needs of children with a disabillity or SEN and their parent/carers.
