The teenage years are a confusing time when behaviour can become challenging and life for the whole family can feel un-balanced and stressful.

As a young person you are coping with body changes and body image, school, exams, peer pressure, sexuality and identity. Physically and mentally you are changing into an independent person with ambitions and ideas of your own.

As a parent you have to navigate the changes to your child, whilst still providing the love and support the young person needs. They may not always seem to need their parents as teenagers, but they still need your love, support, encouragement, nurture, acceptance and attention.

There are many aspects to being a teenager and lots of advice and information to help with this special time in a young person's life

Advice for young people

Becoming a teenager is an exciting part of growing up. Surges of hormones, combined with body changes and body image, struggling to find an identity, pressures from friends and a developing sense of independence, mean the teenage years are a stressful time. You just want to hangout with your friends, stay out late and do what you want to do. Life can feel very confusing so it's good to get information and advice to help you.
