Sandwell Advocacy Project

Sandwell Advocacy Young Carers Project provides independent support for young carers (5 - 18 year olds) and their families in Sandwell.

A young carer is defined not by the amount of time spent caring but by the impact it has on their life. This could involve a family member or individual who may be affected by a physical impairment/learning difficulty, mental health condition, drug and alcohol addiction and any other long term illness or condition.

Advocacy works to protect children and young people from harm and abuse and ensures their rights are safeguarded.

Young Carers Advocacy empower young carers to have greater control over their everyday lives.  They work with young carers who find it difficult to say what they want and need. Their approach looks at the holistic needs of the young carer and their family.

Advocacy is about empowering young people to make sure their rights are respected and their views and wishes are heard at all times.

Referrals are taken from the individual themselves, from a third party or an agency. These can be taken by: telephone, e-mail or face to face.
