Number of students with SEND in Sandwell
The total population for all pupils in Sandwell schools was 62,282 in January 2022.
The percentage of pupils attending a Sandwell school with EHCP / Statements in 2022 was 3.35% (compared with England at 4.0%). This has increased by 1.05% since 2015.
The percentage of pupils receiving SEN Support was 12.58% in 2022 (compared with England at 12.6%)

Education, Health and Care Plans issued within 20 weeks
Sandwell issues a significant majority of its EHC plans within 20 weeks. Out of 400 EHC plans issued in the academic year 2021/22, 60.5% of these were issued within 20 weeks. This is slightly lower than previous years but still slightly above the average for the rest of England which recorded a rate of 59.9%

Mediation and Tribunals
The chart below shows the number of mediation cases and mediation cases which were followed by appeal to tribunal.
The numbers of cases that go to mediation and tribunal are very low compared to other local authorities.
The slight increase reflects the overall increase of new EHCP requests / transfers from statements received by the SEN Service.
